From Glasgow to the Highlands

Born and brought up in Glasgow, Elsie's childhood was filled with books and music. She always loved to write, and assumed that she would go on to study English Literature at university. However, a last minute change of heart led her to the University of Glasgow law school, where she graduated with an LLB in 2002.
Having enjoyed the philosophical elements of legal study - but now knowing that she didn't actually want to be a solicitor - Elsie found herself at a crossroads. Her laptop was filled with half finished manuscripts and contact details for literary agents , but she always lacked the self-belief to pursue them further. Eventually, Elsie followed in the footsteps of her mother, and re-trained as a primary school teacher. She has been teaching for thirteen years now, and it is a career which has brought her endless joy and satisfaction. The urge to write, however, never went away.
The catalyst which encouraged her to finally pursue this dream came when Elsie gave birth to her first child in 2015. She wanted her daughter to grow up knowing that if you put your mind to something, and worked hard, you could achieve anything. So, during her maternity leave, Elsie began writing again, with the sole aim of finishing her manuscript. There were lots of stops and starts along the way, but nearly four years later she had done it, and a completed novel was in her grasp.
After stumbling across an article describing the world of self-publishing one night, Elsie decided that this would be the ideal way to get her work in front of readers without having to go through the long and arduous process of querying. She published her first novel, 'The Back Up Plan', in December 2019, with her second novel - 'Love, on the Rocks' - following not long after in August 2020. In December 2020 she also published 'A Hogmanay Kiss', a festive novella sequel to 'The Back Up Plan'.
Elsie is currently working on her third manuscript, 'The Laird and I', and is aiming to publish this early next year.
Elsie lives in the Scottish Highlands with her two children, a cocker spaniel named Barney, and a ragdoll cat called Alfie. When she's not writing, she enjoys hillwalking, baking, playing the piano, and drinking lots of tea (as well as the occasional whisky).
